What I Have To Say About Sports And Other Stuff
USA! USA! USA!
After going to South Africa last year for the men’s World Cup, I have a far greater appreciation for the game of soccer and so much more national pride in my team. Watching the men’s team last year from the stands and even at home was unbelievably intoxicating. It is the exact feeling I got watching the women’s team today.
Abby Wambach’s goal in the 122nd minute of the quarterfinal game against Brazil was electrifying and quite possibly one of the greatest moments in World Cup history. If this, plus Hope Solos’ amazing saves throughout this tournament and today’s game, don’t help to propel women’s sports into being more legitimately considered and appreciated, I am not sure what will. On the anniversary of the 1999 women’s national team’s success, this was a great call to little girls everywhere to say, “You can do it too!”
